Bomb Blast in Asaba

There were palpable fears in Asaba, the Dellta State capital as bomb explosions rocked the commercial department of the VIP Guest Lodge at Government House, Asaba.

Reports from Asaba said the bomb detonated twice at about 3.30 pm, shattering two of the rooms used by government officials on transit while the roofs of the storey building opposite the Governor’s Office were blown off.

Although, there was no casualty, our correspondent, however, gathered that the security personnel on duty at the Guest House scampered for safety when the explosions occurred.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, ASP Charles Muka confirmed the incidence, but added that “we are waiting for the police bomb disposal Unit to move in”.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Sunny Ogefere said in a statement yesterday that “at about 3.00 pm this afternoon, there was an explosion at Asaba Guest House Asaba, a commercial outfit of the Delta State Government located near Government House.

“Two of the rooms upstairs were damaged from the impact of the explosion. There were no injuries and no casualties recorded”.

He added that security agencies had already moved to the scene of the incident and they have cordoned off the premises and commenced investigations to ascertain the nature of the explosion.
