Siasia shares big vision for NPL stars
STARS of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) can now count themselves lucky as they will be given a decent chance to prove themselves in the Super Eagles under new coach, Samson Siasia.
Siasia has restated his belief that the NPL has players who with a longer training camp period and better tactical awareness could make it at full international level.
One of Siasia’s predecessors, Shuaibu Amodu, has said the domestic league lacks quality players, but the new Nigeria coach has insisted that with hard work by both the players and coaches, NPL stars will fly with the Eagles.“I have seen (good) players here in Nigeria. I built the Olympics team (for Beijing 2008 Olympics) with players from the Nigerian league. So, if we could go all the way and play in the Olympics final, it means we have players here (in Nigeria),” Siasia told MTNFootball.com.
“The only problem is we have to put them together for a long period of time to make sure they play the way you want them to play. They have to be much disciplined on the field of play. That is something some of them don’t have. They don’t have tactical discipline.”
