Henry Okah suspect's bail ruling pushed to Friday
JOHANNESBURG — A South African court delayed its bail ruling Tuesday for Henry Okah, the suspected militant leader accused of ordering Nigeria's independence day blasts, pushing back the decision to Friday.Defence attorney Rudi Krause said his client was disappointed at the delay. But "we don't seem to be able to do much about it," he told the court.
Okah, who prosecutors say is the leader of the militant Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), was arrested at his home in Johannesburg on October 2, the day after twin car bombs killed 12 people in Abuja.
He denies organising the attack and claims he has never been the leader of MEND, which claimed responsibility for the blasts.
MEND claims to be fighting for a fairer distribution of oil revenue in the impoverished Niger Delta, an oil-rich region in Nigeria's south.
